Villa Kultur is proud to present a group exhibition and performance - created and curated by artist Karim Boumjimar. The exhibition is part of the programme 360º
How can we create meaningfully in a saturated space-time? In a world overrun by industrial production and the relentless march of time, humanity has strayed from the delicate balance of nature and must now confront the consequences of its actions.
The artworks presented here are not merely creations of their makers, but rather reflections of the world they inhabit. This exhibition centers on the interplay between human and non-human agents, inviting viewers to contemplate the passage of time and decay. Clothing submerged in resin, amplified whispers and haunting musical influences evoke the spectres of capitalism, nostalgia and schizophrenia, reminding us of the human psyche's complexities. Contemporary vases and sculptures, imbued with hints of the past, serve as poignant reminders of our mortality and the impermanence of all things. These works compel us to envision art as a historical marker, a trail left in the sands of time.
The exhibition invites viewers to experience art as a performative, visual and sensory journey. Artists, working with the resistance of matter, bordering on fantasy, create to comprehend the intricate interactions between natural and cultural ecosystems. The exhibition space is designed to redirect the viewer's movement, leading them on a spatial journey. Performative works, featuring erratic human consciousness and organic movements, further challenge our perceptions of time and space.
From the Paleolithic cave paintings to the present, artistic practices have provided a space for more than just images or material objects. These works explore the interconnectedness of human life, natural life and interhuman relations, aiming to encode information and sensations within matter.
Participating artists are Ryan Trecartin, Young Boy Dancing Group, Leviathan Furtilius, Karim Boumjimar and more.
The exhibition is part of the programme 360º - a new platform for emerging talents working within contemporary art. 360º is made possible with support from The City of Copenhagen.
